New Year's Day

A sad end to the old year, and a tired, heavy feeling of foreboding in beginning this new one. What will be next? Natural disasters, political disasters--so far in America we have not felt the deep impact of any of this, but it can only be a matter of time.

What to do, therefore? Remain guarded and fearful? Hunker down and seek shelter?

No, on the contrary, the only appropriate course of action is to seize the new year by the horns, warts and all, and try to use the time as productively as possible, with all the focus and care and attention we can muster.

That's my New Year's Intention for the day.
